We are looking forward to hearing Daniel Benn play the Dvorak Cello Concerto on May 15th. We last enjoyed his playing here in Huntingdon in 2013, a powerful and sensitive performance of Elgar's Cello Concerto.
Dvorak's last concerto has been described as 'the most beloved cello concerto in the repertory.' This deeply personal Slavic work was received with great acclaim at its first performance in London in 1896 and it has remained a repertoire favourite ever since. We are delighted to welcome back gifted young cellist Daniel Benn as soloist.
The second symphony is the most popular of Sibelius's seven symphonies and has frequently been hailed as his great Romantic masterpiece. Sibelius himself wrote of it as ''a struggle between death and salvation'' and 'a confession of the soul.'
