Description of Huntingdon Castle at

Castle Moat Road, Huntingdon,

Very little remains of the former castle in Huntingdon other than extensive earthworks and what is left of the grounds has become a public park.

The castle existed prior to ~900 AD but had fell into disuse by the middle of the 13th Century. For a brief time during the Civil War the caster was refortified as an artillery fort but this renaissance was short lived.

The outer-bailey was first destroyed by the building of the railway and then further by the construction of the A14 trunk road. Both not only being appalling acts of vandalism of an ancient monument but as history will eventually record both as equally useless constructions.
