A brief description about St Ives Acorn Cancer Support Group

Supporting Cancer Patients and Carers

We aim to alleviate the feelings of loneliness and distress surrounding people diagnosed with cancer and other life limiting illness. Our services are for both patient and carer, and are offered within a strong equal opportunity framework.

 

Monthly support meetings in St Ives, Huntingdon, and Ramsey offer free relaxation therapies and chance to chat with others facing the same issues over free tea/coffee. Social outings -summer boat trips and Xmas party enhance fellowship and fun.

Venue: Bradbury House

This is a specialist designed building for MS sufferers but is very suitable for other groups like Acorn. The Acorn Huntingdon group meets on the 2nd Wednesday every month - between 11 am and 1pm. The venue offers good parking, disabled access, a comfortable lounge and four therapy treatment rooms. Typical attendance at meetings is 40-50 , including volunteer support team and Macmillan nurse.

Venue: Community Room @ Rainbow Surgery

This is a community room attached to the doctor's surgery. The Acorn Ramsey group meets there on the 1st Monday of each month (2nd Monday in event of Bank Holiday) between 1115am and 1.15pm. The venue offers good parking, disabled access, comfortable seating and one therapy treatment room. Typical attendance is 20-25, including volunteer support team and Macmillan nurse.

Acorn Meeting @ Broad Leas Third Wednesday 11.00 13.00

 

Venue: Broad Leas Court Sheltered Housing

This is a private sheltered housing facility. The St Ives group meets there on the 3rd Wednesday of each month between 11am and 1pm. The venue has no on-site parking though on occasions parking for a disabled visitor might be possible. There is a public car park within 100 yards. The site offers disabled access, a very comfort lounge and one therapy treatment room. Typical attendance is 20-25, including volunteer support team and Macmillan nurse.
